Trade Days shopping in Canton is one of the most exciting times of the month, but if you plan on going, there are a few things you should know first.
It’s not on Monday!
The country’s largest flea market may be called “First Monday” Trade Days, but it’s not actually on Monday anymore. As the event has expanded, so has the time frame. The flea market is open the Thursday through Sunday prior to the first Monday. So, if you show up on the first Monday of the month, you’ll be too late.
Cash may put you ahead of the game
While most vendors now carry card readers, having cash may help you get a better deal. That’s because cash doesn’t carry any fees, and it’s immediately usable.
If you do decide to bring cash, think big. You never know what you’re going to find. From food to trinkets to furniture, the Trade Days have it all. Having enough money on hand to haggle for that incredible coffee table or one of a kind painting will make it easier to snag the things you really want.
And if you happen to be in the market for furniture, you might want to consider how you’ll be taking it home.
How will you carry what your buy? Make sure to purchase a rolling bag/cart. They are cheap and make it so much easier to shop without having to hold onto your purchases.
Watch the weather
There are some air conditioned venues, but for the most part, you’ll be perusing the various wares outside.
Don’t worry if the forecast calls for rain. Just bring an umbrella or rain poncho and come check things out. Bad weather can result in better deals, as vendors consider the size of the crowds and how likely they are to sell their wares if you walk away.
Think comfortable clothes to deal with potentially old and dirty items and shoes ideal for walking long distances. Layering up can be a great way to combat dirt and weather, as you can peel the layers off as you go. For the warm summer months, pack sunscreen and water to prevent burns and dehydration.
With 450 acres to cover, you’ll probably be there for a while, so make sure you dress accordingly.
