Reunions can be a great way to gather your family and catch up with family members you haven’t seen in a while (or new ones you might not have met yet!). If you have a large group you’re trying to gather, the planning process can seem overwhelming. First, if several families are involved, you will need to start talking to them early to gauge their interest and availability. You may want to start this up to six months to a year in advance, depending on how many people will be involved. While you’re talking to them, be alert for any signs that they might be willing to help! The more help, the better. Gather email addresses or start a facebook group for easier communication.
When you’ve got a good idea of when and how many people will be interested in attending, you can pick a venue. Keep in mind that Dallas special events venues can require plenty of advance notice for large groups, so call as soon as you can to make reservations for your 2014 weekend reunion. You will also want to be sure you are aware of any family members with special needs and make sure the venue you have chosen can accommodate them (wheelchair accessibility, etc). Some tasks to delegate could include ordering T-shirts, handling the money, organizing menus (or talking to the caterer), planning games for the kids or scheduling activities, games and prizes, handling presentations or acting as Master of Ceremonies. If you have a photographer in the family, see if they’ll take pictures. Keep everybody up to date on who’s doing what. If you’ve got an email or facebook group going, posting updates will not only keep everyone informed, it’ll keep everyone excited about the upcoming reunion.
