Yes, most people breeze through town during the First Monday Trade Days, leaving with their wonderful finds and never thinking twice about it. There are, however, a ton of other things to do and “must-sees” in East Texas that you don’t want to miss when renting vacation cabins in Texas. Heritage Park Outdoor Museum is a quick drive from Canton and provides a little window into what rural life was like in East Texas in the early 1900’s.
Check out the life and times of alligators at the East Texas Gators and Wildlife park, where you can watch them feed and see eggs and baby gators in addition to a variety of other animals.
Over the holidays, Yesterland Farms provides holiday activities over the fall and Christmas season with a little old-fashioned flare.
For the adults:
Check out Canton’s wonderful selection of boutiques and antique storefronts. Our favorite is the Dish Barn.
Texas wine isn’t just in the Hill Country anymore. Take a wine tour at the Texas Roads Winery to experience the wonderful vintages from North East Texas.
Hit a few balls at the Twin Lakes Golf Course, one of Texas’ top 10 facilities and one of North Texas’ most challenging. Groups welcome.
Over the summer:
During June and July, head to Blueberry Hills Farm or The Berry Bush (or both, they are right next to each other) to “pick your own” variety of East Texas berries, farm fresh and syrupy sweet.
Head out to Lake Fork, hailed as one of Texas’ best lakes for trophy bass fishing. They also have catfish, crappie, sunfish and bluegill, or you can always just enjoy a day on the lake.
During the summer, head to Splash Kingdom Waterpark for fun in the sun. Mini golf is open year-round.
