From our comfortable cottages to our swimming pools and nature trails, your wedding can be their vacation. But when you choose to have your dream wedding in an outdoor setting in the spring or summer, your consideration for your guests should extend to the ceremony itself. How can you make your wedding perfect for you and your guests?
Plan for heat. Springtime and Fall in Texas is ideal for outdoor weddings – summertime it is hotter. But if you have your heart set on a summer wedding or it’s just the most convenient time of year, remember that you don’t want your guests passing out from the heat during your ceremony. If you can, set up a tent or some other covering to keep the sun from beating directly down on them and make sure that each guest is supplied with a hand fan and a cold bottle of water. How about ice popsicles for your guests. If you don’t want a tent, time your ceremony for the late afternoon when the sun is setting and situate your guests so the sun is at their backs.
Have a backup plan in case of rain. Many wedding venues in Dallas, TX have some kind of indoor location to use when the weather is bad. You can set up a tent but make sure that it can handle our gusting, Texas winds and that it can adequately shelter all of your guests. At Mill Creek Ranch Resort, we have the Grand Lodge and a covered pavilion, each of which can accommodate 150 people.
Make the most of the setting. When your wedding is outside, especially in the kind of setting we provide at Mill Creek Ranch Resort, you don’t have to worry much about decorating because nature has done most of the work for you. For the rest, you can continue with the theme and set up a rustic arch or trellis festooned with flowers to focus the ceremony and frame the bride and groom. Sprinkle the aisle leading up to the trellis with flower petals and fill mason jars with bouquets of dried flowers placed next to guest chairs. If you want to forego folding chairs altogether, set up bales of hay covered in blankets. String fairy lights or hang lanterns in trees for evening weddings.
